(Somewhat) Formal Writing
Although the documents here are probably better-edited than most of my babbling, they do not represent anything even close to published material. Most of these things were written as assignments or projects; very few were written with any sort of agenda beyond getting a grade. Just in case you don't know me personally, let me warn you that nothing here is worth referencing in any sort of meaningful work.
| My TAPP Portfolio | 2005-04-30 |
| This TAPP portfolio was a requirement for me to earn my renewable teaching certificate in the state of Georgia. | |
| My AMCAS Personal Statement | 2004-10-25 |
| This essay was submitted along with my application to medical school. It is a first-hand account of the difficulties I've faced as a teacher and what I've learned from teaching. | |
| A Critique of Materialism in the Works of T. H. Huxley | 2003-04-18 |
| I wrote this essay for my senior philosophy class at Georgia Tech. The essay chronicles some of the beliefs of Huxley, and raises questions about the validity and value of science as materialism. I am only an amateur philosopher, so I'm not sure if any of my arguments are meaningful. | |
| Evolution vs. Creationism (Adobe PDF) (PowerPoint) | 2003-04-01 |
| My Georgia Tech senior seminar presentation addressed current cultural and political issues concerning evolution and especially the teaching of evolution in public schools. | |
| My Teach for America Application Essays | 2002-12-01 |
| I'm including these essays because they show how idealistic yet ignorant I was as a college senior. Before I was hired as a teacher by a local school system in GA, I applied to a program called "Teach for America" which recruits highly-qualified college grads who want to teach temporarily as a form of service. These corps members are briefly trained over the summer and placed into high-risk schools. I was not accepted by TFA, which is a good thing because I think I would have been miserable in a school that really has problems. | |
| The Batfolio | 1999-05-01 |
| This is my high school senior portfolio (a requirement for senior English). Most of the articles here were written purely for entertainment value. Plus, it took me a long time to adapt it to html format so at least LOOK at it. Mundanely amusing, yet still offensive! | |
| We Visit the Blue Spring (by Granpaul!) | 1991-09-01 |
| Written by my grandfather, Paul Luce (better known as "Granpaul"), after a trip to a unique spring that belonged to my family many years ago. The story was written about a week after my eleventh birthday. It was originally type-written, but I scanned it in April 2005. | |
