Heli Fixes

Still working on the nose-in hovering. It's coming along, but I'm still along way from being as good as I am tail-in. I had some nasty accidents today. On one, the main rotor hit the tail boom and cracked it pretty badly. I wrapped the broken area in thread and coated it in super glue, and it seems pretty solid but time will tell.

I epoxied a button to the vertical tail rotor guard, which had been getting stuck in the dirt (not pleasant when taking off or flying low).

I also noticed that the battery, which I had been attaching to the 4in1 controller, was damaging the helicopter frame, which is somewhat weak at that point. I removed the battery and super-glued the 4in1 to the frame in two places to reinforce that. I built a new battery mount by using epoxy to attach two new carbon fiber rods parallel to the helicopter frame. This still allows the battery to be positioned forward of the skids but distributes the weight on the skids rather than the 4in1 frame.

It is interesting to me that you are so involved with your whirlybird. Wish I had time to get so carried away with mine. Seems to be a lot of fun, and a great way to get your mind away from the other stuff of daily life. Hope y'all are well and that we see you soon.
